Favourite song from each decade.

Post by XsInMyEyes »

This does more or less what it says on the tin ... with this topic I will list my favourite song across various decades, seeing as one concluded less than three days ago. If you’ve the time, then please, list yours too.

1940s: Woody Guthrie, “Aint got no Home in this World Anymore” (Dustbowl-Ballads, 1940)
1950s: Jerry Lee Lewis, “Great balls of Fire” (single, 1957)
1960s: Fairport Convention, “Matty Groves” (Leige and Leif, 1969)
1970s: Deep Purple, “Flight of the Rat” (In Rock, 1970)
1980s: REM, “Sitting-Still” (Murmur, 1983)
1990s: Alice in Chains, “Rain when I Die” (Dirt, 1992)
2000s: The Proclaimers, “I Know” (Notes and Rhymes, 2009)
2010s: Manic Street Preachers, “Show me the Wonder” (Rewind the Film, 2014)

Coming up with just one answer for so many decades was tough! I do change my verdict a lot. I may make a list of the “top-5” or alike for each decade...

That's a cool idea, I'm in! :D
1940s: Glenn Miller - Little Brown Jug (okay this version was released in 1939 if you let that pass)
1950s: Miles Davis - So What (Kind of Blue, 1959)
1960s: The Beatles - I Want You (Abbey Road, 1969)
1970s: Television - Marquee Moon (Television, 1975)
1980s: Little Bears from Bangkok - Car Buying Time (Vic Morrow, 1982)
1990s: Chris Cornell - Seasons (Singles OST, 1992)
2000s: Tool - Lateralus (Lateralus, 2001)
2010s: HOME - Resonance (Odyssey, 2013)

I just thought maybe it'd also be fun to break this down to the single years of the decades? At least down to the 70's and 60's it would work for me ^^

Yes, that is a good idea. It would be easier, selecting songs to represent a year rather than an entire decade, though it would be more time consuming. I could definitely give an answer for every year from about 1965-2010. I will do a 1965-79 list later... then 80-89, 90-99 etc...
