First Wave Punk Rock?
Hey,
I was just wondering if anyone had any personal favourites (albums) from the First Wave of Punk Rock (or even Proto-Punk if you are so inclined). I've got quite into the music of that period but wanted to know if there was anything I'd missed.
My Favourite Albums:
Ramones - Rocket to Russia
Sex Pistols - Never Mind the Bollocks
X-Ray Spex - Germfree Adolescents

The Clash. Not only my favorite Punk band, one of my favorite music acts ever.
London Calling is a masterpiece.
Sex Pistols are cool too. Never got into Ramones.

Sex Pistols > Ramones > Clash
Re: First Wave Punk Rock?
So we are talking 76-79ish? I guess on the pre punk side my faves are The Sonics, NewYork Dolls and Jonathan Richman and the Modern Lovers. I'm really not that big a fan of the Stooges....first wave of "punk punk" I guess I'd say thats CBGB's... The Ramones are the top of the heap by a million miles....over in Ohio Devo was kicking ass, The Cramps AMAZING rockabilly , Boston had The RealKids (very Garagey), up in Toronto Canada The Diodes were great, The Dishrags in BC are one of my faves (all girl band that doesn't have much info online) early DOA, Down to L.A. The Screamers, X, BlackFlag (before Rollins ruined them), The Circle Jerks, The Zeros, The Adolescents. San Francisco The DeadKennedys.
Over to England for The BuzzCocks, Stiff Little Fingers, Elvis Costello and the Attractions(not that punk but whatever), JoyDivision (post punk I guess).
I'm sure I'll think of a ton more...thats really the era that I love the most....80s punk had some amazing stuff but a lot of the bands started sounding the same or all of their songs sounded the same.

Rollins is a wild man and has a sound head on his shoulders. His singing could be better maybe, but I still think he's pretty cool.
