Guilty Pleasures

Post by chaoticgaragemusic »

I was greatly inspired by grunge as the next guy on this forum. What bugs me are the purists that incite strong language when bringing up bands like Nickelback or Creed or whatever. I will admit to liking a great deal of songs from them. That's just me. One of my first rock bands was Three Days Grace. I've moved on to material even outside of rock music now.

I want people to admit guilty pleasures on this thread.

I always liked Nickelback, and yes even Creed, though the religiousey lyrics would make me not listen to them as much, and now the cheeseyliscious videos make me not want to watch those, but they have a good sound to them, but I never really had guilty pleasures because I never felt guilty about them and always considered that concept stupid, but someone once named theirs as Summer Breeze by Seals and Crofts, so if that is considered one then I'd go with that, as well as Cars by Gary Newman, Dream Weaver by Gary Wright, and Abba. Ha, I just noticed those are all 70s soft rock/pop. Oh and I always liked disco, though not all that much, but it is a billion times better than the crap today which makes me think there is even more reason for rock fans to take albums of today and burn them and declare bad pop dead just like they did with disco that one time.

I like Creed's first two albums the most. Then they got crappy and fully generic. I liked them because they were dark and have humanistic, self-examining lyrics. I understand that's often overdone for lyrical content, but I'm just a sucker for that stuff. Some of Nickelback's songs are just fun to listen to! Especially their new material IMO. Not all of their songs are good (they are definitive writers of "cheese ballads"), but I like enough of their songs to think they are pretty ok, but not inspirational in any sort.

I also like Breaking Benjamin and am hoping that the band continues in whatever form (even though Burnley is the only remaining original member, he fired the guitarist and bassist and there's a huge lawsuit at the moment).

I LOVE 80s NEW WAVE/alternative! It's so unique and catchy and fresh from the punk brewery! I think I like REM, U2, Bauhaus, Depeche Mode, and the Police the best. Ironic that some "alternative" music started in the vein of heavy use of synths. I love the 70s too.
