Really? Because to me it always sounded like he was taking it anally while being rabbit punched in the balls. :P
Yep, not a fan. Never have been. Also is it just me or is Slash an overrated guitarist? He's great and everything, but definitley not deserving of the Guitar God status he so often receives.

I always liked them. I grew up with them. My favorite of theirs was always Welcome to the Jungle.

In an awful, backhanded way, GNR were the gateway for a lot of folk around at the time into the whole alternative rock thing...
The excesses of the stale, cock-rock era were their most excessive when it was Axl's lot (axlotyl... tee hee), and his strange Napoleon-complex, alpha-male misogyny mixed with Slash & Izzy's trends towards musical overkill were the polar opposite of what came to define Grunge.
Back then, it pretty much seemed like a choice of either following Axl down the path of untethered egomania and excess, or turn away towards the more introspective, more direct sounds coming from Seattle.
Philosophical differences certainly led to me closing the door on any interest I had in GNR, ironically after seeing them in 1992. On a tour opened by Soundgarden (who took a slot previously offered to Nirvana), which was my first exposure to them.
There was a clear delineation between the dyed-in-the-wool GNR fans, and the I-quite-like-Wool alt-rockers, and by the end of the show I was pretty much certain I'd be listening to Mudhoney, Soundgarden, L7 and Babes in Toyland way after Guns N' Roses had ceased to be relevant.
Turns out I was closer to being right than I'd expected.

THat was a pretty good rundown of the GNR myth. I like to call them the fulfillers and destroyers of glam metal. I think most rock fans can agree on Appetite as a decent, largely timeless hard rock album with a number of great hooks. From Illusion onward it just became totally overblown, ironically only a few years before the same thing would happen to Seattle and grunge.

Yup, I love their old stuff always. This thread just shows how bad I was back in the day, so Liam please don't judge me for my past sins.

i've found myself unable to listen to GnR a majority of the time simply because of their lyrics and how uncomfortable they made me feel.

turn around bitch, i got a use for you

if you turn me on to anything you better turn me on tonight

Panties 'round your knees
With your ass in debris
Doin' dat grind
with a push and squeeze
Tied up, tied down,

like, i liked them when i was 13 but now that i understand the lyrics i feel guilty for even buying Appetite For Destruction.
Now I think it's alright, to feel inhuman...

I feel you man. Not all of them are as horrible as the ones you quoted though, and they were quintessentially a 'badder' version of glam rock (like Mötley Crüe), so expecting deep lyrics is maybe a little too much to ask. In his better moments Axl managed to take a nice stab or two at the American Dream (Paradise City, Welcome to the Jungle) while in many other instances he simply couldn't get past his white trash origins.

i like estranged, and a lot of the illusion tracks like dust n' bones. they were nice chilled out non-sexist, non-trashy songs.
