I actually do like the Johnny Cash version better but I know what you mean

Johnny's came at the end of his life and there is a lot of depth and meaning in it. Not saying that the NIN version isn't amazing but I really believe that Johnny made this song his own. I get a little choked up listening to it, especially if partnered with the somber music video. I've never been a Johnny Cash fan (and I take issue with anyone who calls him a "rock star") but I respect him a lot for taking on this song.

Just the fact that he, Being who he was, covered a nine inch nails song is cool as hell, however, I get pissed when people act like he wrote it and Trent is somehow ripping him off, I just like the NIN version a lot better

Oh yeah, I think I've heard people say that he wrote Rusty Cage. Pft.

That's totally fair man. If people try to pass off "Hurt" as Johnny's creation then correct them on what a fucking idiot they are. I can sort of relate with how you feel. When I first saw that Staind did a cover of "Nutshell" I got so disgusted that I had to walk out of the room. Apologies if anyone is a Staind fan, I think they're worthless.

Aaron Lewis fucked up Sober, that in itself is enough for me to not like his band

He did fuck up "Sober". I'm not even a Tool fan and I can agree to that vehemently. He also fumbled "Comfortably Numb" and I'm sure the list could go on.

Tool are one of my favorite bands, the raw energy of sober being an amazing thing for me, so i almost take that as an insult, and yeah the im sure the list does go on, PJs "Black" being high on the list, his version annoys the fuck outve me

Back on topic, did you know that Trent Reznor composed the soundtrack for the game Quake? I used to play the shit out of the game when it came out in the mid 90's. The nailgun ammo boxes in the game even have "NIN" logos on them to pay homage.

I come from a country of northern lights, lightless days and nightless nights.
I'm not gonna sit around and waste my precious divine energy trying to explain and be ashamed of things you think are wrong with me.
