Mono Men

Post by SayHello2Heaven »

It's late, and i'm bored. So I do research and post what I find on here when there isn't anything else to do. HOORAY FOR FREE TIME!!! 8D

I have no idea where to start with the Mono Men. So much to talk about and so little time. Well they are from Bellingham, Washington and formed in 1987 and lasted until 2006, amazingly!!!! most bands don't last that long.

Dave Crider is on guitars and vocals, Ledge Morrisette on bass, Aaron Roader on drums who was in a band called The Roofdogs, another Bellingham band. I don't normaly put in former band members in these posts but I feel I have too here. Former guitarist and vocalist John Mortensen was apart of The Dehuminizers and Game For Vultures before joining the Mono Men....Who said I don't put in some fun facts in these posts?

They were not your typical Grunge band to say the least. Of course they held to the grunge distortions and all the fuzzy warm goodness but, if you know about early Seattle music, they also grab heavy influence from The Sonics and even The Stooges and Lyres. Talk about a fun mix :) but amazingly it worked out! their music is different than the other bands to an extent, and you hear it when you watch the movie Hype! A very garage/punk style with a Sonics touch. I have a hard time comparing then to other bands, I have a tendency to do a bad job of that in general! but I always seem to link them with the Young Fresh Fellows. No idea why, they don't sound the same but I do that :) very energetic band with a record catalog exceeding 55 releases :shocking:

I'm not going to discuss all of their releases of course, but it is noteworthy to say they were signed to Sub Pop and Estrus Records among others. "Stop Draggin' Me Down" is always a favorite Mono Men record of mine, and how can you not love their Wipers cover on "Bent Pages" and "10 Cool Ones"....Fuckin' great covers!!!! if my post here is making you water at your mouth, and want to grab everything the band released, check out their website.....Actually instead of me rambling go there and read their interviews and other treasures (http://www.monomen.net/)

Now, more fun facts for your reading pleasure: Dave Crider founded Estrus Records, and the members of the Mono Men went to high school with members of The Fastbacks....Small world? I think so :)

I searched, didn't find a topic for them.

I got their "Wrecker!" album yesterday, and I haven't stopped listening to it since. Definitely a severely underrated band, I'm looking for more of their stuff as I type!

Mono Men are pretty sweet!

I have a bunch of their releases laying around my room somewhere. I think my favorite is either "Ten Cool Ones" or "Bent Pages"...But all of the albums are really good :)

That album is cool, I always say that one is "space rock" though :P which it is very space rock, but to each their own, there's too many genres anyway.

I got almost all their CD's :D

Have A Nice Day, Motherfucker is also a really great one. I think Wrecker! is still my favorite of theirs though. You can't beat Watch Outside and Swampland!

Lol I'm just browsing through old threads and noticed these guys in the grunge section when they're really garage rockers :P

Whether someone is grunge or not is best left to the critics
