I don't normally like to bump old threads but I wanted to come back to say thank you for recommending Blues Funeral. I hadn't checked out Mark Lanegan's recent stuff. I've been listening to it since then and it's phenomenal.

I talked to Greg dulli a couple of times on a hip hop board about 10 years ago. around the time the Twilight Singers album came out. In fact I asked him about afghan Whigs and he told me they'd split up way previously...I didn't even know. Cool story bro.

I first saw the WHigs in '93 or so at a Sub Pop Showcase at the Off Ramp, also on the bill were The Fastbacks, Sprinkler and the Spinanes. I remember the Whigs playing long after Last call.
I had seen them play over a dozen times since that first show.
The Afghan Whigs were all about their Live shows. Dulli's voice was rough and sounded so on the CDs, but Live it took on another dimension. He had something there and it only grew with time. His voice now is much more trained.
I would have to say that the Best Whigs' albums would be: Gentlemen, Congregation and 1965, '65 is the most polished.

So, I joined this exclusive Greg Dulli group, and they said that Afghan Whigs have been playing the new album songs in past year (?) so I looked up their live videos, and if those songs are going into that album, I'm going to be a very happy girl! Can't wait.

I haven't invested time into The Afghan Whigs. Shame on me mostly.

You should try them! To me, Dulli is much like Lanegan, everything he touches turns to gold.

I've gone through most Dulli has made, but I still have few Whigs albums I've never listened.

Anyway, the new album is pure magic! 💜
