8 Years Later: New Tool Album

Post by Y2K-kyle »

Via Antiquiet(Which came from Crave Online):

Discussing a new studio offering from Tool has become a bit complicated. The band hasn’t put out any new material since 2006′s 10,000 Days, and there have been plenty of rumors surrounding an upcoming LP – none of which came close to fruition just yet. There’s also the fact that frontman Maynard James Keenan kept himself busy releasing music from his other two projects (A Perfect Circle and Puscifer), leaving the future of Tool in doubt.

Today, however, things changed. With Tool currently on tour across the US, our friends over at CraveOnline got an exclusive confirmation from guitarist Adam Jones that the group’s fifth LP is “100% done,” and will see a release in 2014. This seems to fit with the information that Maynard provided in August last year, when he mentioned that he had yet to “hear the sounds” that the band was preparing. There’s also the rumor that the band was working on a movie, but we’ll see where that ends.

CraveOnline’s full report can be checked out below:

EXCLUSIVE: NEW TOOL ALBUM REPORTEDLY FINISHED, SET FOR 2014 RELEASE
Will we finally see a new Tool album this year? Though they are certainly known for hijinks and misinformation, according to guitarist Adam Jones the long-awaited new Tool record, the follow-up to 2006′s dark masterpiece 10,000 Days, is complete.

In case you forgot where we left off on this whole story, this Loudwire interview with drummer Danny Carey in July last year included the following statement:

“It’s still the three of us right now and four of us it will be soon. You know, just working on all our parts and working on our compositions together. Stylistically, we’re trying to push things in different ways, but it always comes out sounding like Tool no matter what we’re trying to do. We’re working everyday on it and it’s going really well, so I’m hoping we’ll get into the studio by the end of the year.”

He also denied the possibility of a 2013 release – he was right about that one:

“I doubt it. Right now, since we haven’t started tracking stuff at this point, it’ll be hard. We could have the record finished by the end of the year – that’s a possibility, but the logistics of getting it manufactured and getting the record company in line and all this stuff, I doubt we’ll be able to get it out before Christmas. We’ll see how it goes. Most likely, it’ll be early 2014.”

Just wait another two years and make it an even 10.

It's impressive just how much a stir that caused, it got good coverage on most music sites and blogs. Not band for a prog band.

Who will release an album first, King Crimson or Tool?
Debut album out now, listen to the whole thing on Soundcloud here ...

I like Tool and even run sound for a local Tool tribute band so I know a ton of the music very well. I'd like to see a new album buy them but it doesn't really excite me that much. Am I ostracized from the forum now?

I agree with Dan mostly, because after 8 years your sound is gonna change quite a bit. they even said they were changing the sound. I only liked a few(about half) from 10000 days, so If their sound goes any another direction than normal I dont actually think ill like it. and now I will say something to get banned from the forum. I dont care for A Perfect Circle. I just dont like It, and when it comes to maynard after making one kind of music for 8 years can you actually go back to another? just my opinion

I'll only believe they have a new album when I'm holding a physical copy in my hands.

If it ever actually happens, I hope it'll be better than 10,000 Days

Half of the songs on that album are filler

I don’t think we’re going to be seeing any Tool albums because they’ve been working on a new album since 2010 and now it’s the second half of 2014 and no signs yet.

According to the latest news coverage, work on the new album is "progressing rather nicely": http://consequenceofsound.net/2014/10/t ... dio-album/
