Anthony Kiedis' autobiography

Post by incessantmace » Wed Oct 23, 2013 1:57 am

So some guy was selling this book at the last flea market and I bought it for a buck (because I love few things more than music biographies :P ). I've read about half of it by now (it's the time when Hillel Slovak has just died of an overdose), and srsly, this book would only be about 30 pages long if all those drug descriptions were left out. It's just too much of the same again and again, and I also just find it alienating to have drug experiences shoved down my throat on each and every page. I thought it would be more about music (which is featured too, to be fair, but by far not to the same extent as drugs and sex) and not quite as much about shooting dope all the time.

Has anyone else read this and has a different opinion maybe?

I read it or at least quite long samples from it (don't remember which is correct, I don't own the book anyway), and felt it explained a few things about the band that I had not previously realized (known perhaps, yes, but not fully realized), and for that reason it was a good read. The drug references bothered me some, as well, because that's something I wouldn't like to spend much time thinking about.

Not sure if we're talking about the same book though :-P
I can't remember the name or the cover of the book I read... It was written (/cowritten) by Anthony, anyway.

Actually.. What I've written above applies for Dave Navarro's fairly recent book, too.

I do think we're talking about the same book, Päivi :) And no, I'm so totally not surprised that Dave's book heads into a similar direction

Well I'm glad to hear that :-D

I hope you found the whole album, it's good stuff all the way to the end. Makes me sad and at the same time kind of pleased Jane's disbanded. They could not have outdone Ritual, anyway, not at that stage I'm sure.. "They may say, those were the days.. but in a way, you know for us these are the days"
