Soundgarden news thread

So, here goes all those little news which don't "deserve" own topic :)

Well, this could be it's own topic, but whatthehell, I'll be the first one. From Grunge report

NEXT SOUNDGARDEN RELEASE TO BE RARITIES ALBUM, NEW MATERIAL NOT IN THE WORKS YET
I didn’t hear all of Soundgarden’s interview on Rockline last night since I had to leave about 15 minutes in. For the show though the main host was out and some replacement guy did the interview. He sucked and didn’t know much about them, supposedly he even called them Savage Garden at one point. Chris was in Los Angeles for the interview; while Kim, Matt, and Ben were in Seattle. They talked about the the first reunion show in Seattle and Kim said he was a nervous wreck until a few songs in and then he started to enjoy himself. The band dodged the question when asked about new material, Kim even said next question. The question was about how is it different now to work on new material together. Matt answered by saying that they haven’t worked on any yet but hinted that they might. At this point I had to leave and turn it off, so the rest of my recap is based off of posts on the SoundgardenWorld.com forums.

Matt said “never say never” when asked about Pearl Jam and Soundgarden show. The band also said the B-sides/rarities collection will be their next release.

Hmm, Savage Garden... wtf? :D

I'm skeptical- will there be a tour or is all this just for publicity for the b-sides album? I can't even describe how much I want them to tour next year, once Matt is free to, but I'm not getting my hopes up. Hopefully Chris realizes that he cannot sell records and tickets on his own.

I thought we already had one-- Oh well, here it is. If someone could make this sticky also?

MATT CAMERON HINTS THAT SOUNDGARDEN ARE FINISHED RECORDING NEW ALBUM
In Pearl Jam’s new issue of Deep magazine, Matt Cameron said “I just recorded a new Soundgarden record.” Interpret that as you may, Chris Cornell has said recently that the new album is “almost finished.”

Hey I know this about Soundgarden but Smashing Pumpkins are very similar. Anyone attending their latest tour?

You can buy flash drives of each concert ON THE DAY OF THE SHOW after the event. Pretty crazy I think.

You can go online too and buy any previous show. I hope Soundgarden comes up with something like this for their shows, too.

This is not a new practice in the music industry. You can go to a site called nugs.net where you can purchase mp3, flac or even cd's of last nights concert by certain bands. Phish was giving away free mp3 downloads using a ticket stub code. (I benefited from this and it did kick ass). Then there are sites where you can always get last nights concerts.

I strongly suggest archive.org . This site has a feature called the Live Music Archive which features over a thousand bands. All the downloads are legal, and approved from the bands. Some bands will only allow audience recordings while other bands will allow soundboard recordings, and sometimes the band will upload a soundboard themselves. Fugazi and Smashing Pumpkins are both on the LMA.

BIG UPDATE ON SOUNDGARDEN’S NEW ALBUM

Soundgarden drummer Matt Cameron stated in the new Soundgarden article in Rolling Stone Australia that the new Soundgarden album, “There’s some absolute classic heavy duty sludge-riff rock, with ear splitting vocals.” The album has a tentative 2nd quarter release date scheduled. The dynamics of the songwriting process were also revealed in the article:

-Chris Cornell brought in 6-7 songs

-Kim Thayil and Ben Shepherd wrote music for 4-5 tracks

-Matt Cameron wrote the music for 2 songs.

Cornell also stated that he feels the same about this album as all of the other Soundgarden albums, and that any feelings of insecurity and anxiety about the new album are popping up at the same times they did when he made the old ones.

and

SOUNDGARDEN WILL CONTINUE TO RELEASE NEW ALBUMS IN THE FUTURE

Soundgarden frontman Chris Cornell stated in the new Soundgarden article in Rolling Stone Australia, that he predicts that Soundgarden will continue to release new albums in the future. He also stated that if he was forced to choose one project to stick with, it would be Soundgarden. He called the band his first love.

Cornell stated, “No matter what, a band that is as creatively powerful as Soundgarden needs to live above and beyond any kind of internal turmoil that might come up, because any internal turmoil is always going to be pretty small compared to what’s at stake.”

This is a little away from topic:
Considering that Soundgarden were gone about the same amount of time My Bloody Valentine were, I hope that they release a new record this year. Kevin said in October that he was done with it, and had founded a label to release it, Pickpocket Records. The latest this should come out? I say June :D
2012 will be the year. Soundgarden, MBV, Malfunkshun and Smashing Pumpkins will all be releasing new ones (and I know that the latter's will be good based on the amount of pedals Corgan is using, how the last one sounded and the song titles), not to mention the amount of new bands: Drowner, Black Market Karma, the Big Pink, Ringo Deathstarr, the Sunshine Factory, and not to mention board member's bands like Zodiac N Black, Raw Mojo, and of course that shitty noise pop band Permute .
I will actually keep track of all the new releases that are good in a new thread.
