New Lanegan

Talk about the formidable Screaming Trees, the first band I ever saw live (opening for Soul Asylum and Spin Doctors in the early 90s).

New Lanegan

Post by sadie » Sat Aug 30, 2014 12:34 am

I thought we have a thread for this, he releases something new all the time anyway :)

Waiting for Phantom Radio, and haven't listened No Bells On Sunday just yet. This morning I will though, I have some time to just sit down and be :)
I'll let you know what I think.
I come from a country of northern lights, lightless days and nightless nights.
I'm not gonna sit around and waste my precious divine energy trying to explain and be ashamed of things you think are wrong with me.

I listened to one of the songs from the EP, and it got me pumped. Then again, new Lanegan music is always good.

I love it. It's the only thing I've been listening lately (besides yesterday and today morning), I feel like I haven't had much time for music. And it's not yet connected to anything, so I can just float through it.

Remix album - A thousand miles of Midnight
release date 24th February

Following career-best reviews and a Top 20 chart entry for Phantom Radio last month, Mark Lanegan Band return with A Thousand Miles Of Midnight, an album of remixes of tracks from both ‘Phantom Radio’ and ‘No Bells On Sunday’, the EP that accompanied it. The album is made up of a brilliant array of remixes by artists as diverse as UNKLE, Moby, Greg Dulli and Soulsavers.

Mark Lanegan says of the album: “I thought these tunes would lend themselves to remixing and that it would be interesting to hear what other artists might make of them. All the people who did remixes are musicians whose work I greatly admire.”

Tracklisting
1. Death Trip To Tulsa - Mark Stewart’s exopolitix demix
2. I Am The Wolf - Greg Dulli remix
3. The Killing Season - UNKLE remix
4. Torn Red Heart - Moby remix
5. No Bells On sunday - Moon Gangs remix
6. Floor Of the Ocean - Pye Corner Audio remix
7. Sad Lover - Mikey Young remix
8. Waltzing in Blue - Earth dub mix
9. Harvest Home - Magnus remix
10. The Wild People - Alistair Galbraith remix
11. Dry Iced - Thomas Barfod remix
12. Jonas Pap - Soulsavers Aural Disorientation remix
13. Seventh Day - Tom Furse extrapolation
14. Judgement Time - Alain Johannes remix

Not sure how I feel about the album being remixed, but if he trusts them then by all means.

Plus, lucky you Nel for seeing him live!

It better sound right. You know how Mark gets when things just don't sound right. He might go Rokslide on them otherwise.

Mark Lanegan releasing album of demos, covered Marc Almond/Nico song with Beth Orton
Mark Lanegan is unearthing some early-'00s demos for a new release titled Houston (Publishing Demos 2002) which will be out via Ipecac Recordings on August 21. These came shortly after Screaming Trees' breakup and many of these never made it onto a studio album. We've got the premiere of "No Cross" which you can listen to below. You can also check out the LP's tracklist and cover art, which was done by Jon Langford of the Mekons (who are in NYC this week).
Meanwhile, Mark's UK label, Heavenly Recordings, are celebrating their 25th anniversary and releasing a few special singles for the occasion. One of them is Mark Lanegan and Beth Orton covering Marc Almond's 1988 UK hit "Your Kisses Burn," which was a duet with Nico. You can stream that below as well.
Mark's got a few UK shows lined up for August, and those dates are listed below...
Mark Lanegan - Houston (Publishing Demos 2002) track list:
1. No Cross
2. Two Horses
3. When It's In You (Methamphetamine Blues)

6. Grey Goes Black *
7. The Primitives
8. Blind
9. Halcyon Daze *
