Beats are not relevant in the Rock and Metal subculture.

For some reason.

Biggest market scam out there. Beats are simply a name you are paying for, not quality.

Agreed.

So apparently I started this thread. I guess that's one way of showing my hatred of them.

I'm being an idiot bringing this up in this thread, but I got beats as a Christmas present, and they're pretty decent, better than the headphones I had, I mean I'd always heard they were pretty shit, but I couldn't refuse them as I got them as a gift, but honestly I've been enjoying them

They sound very muddy and they make you look ignorant.

That's nice to hear. I guess I could use some input from someone that actually has tried them out. How do they sound with a metal or a grunge song, though?

I wasn't saying they are bad headphones in any way, just that you are paying a lot of money for a name rather than the actual quality. There are other brands out there with the same quality components/craftsmanship and for 1/4 of the price. As a gift, awesome headphones. If you are on a budget or have $200 to spend on headphones there are better options. :)

I'm not a fan of the design. They look very clunky.

For $200 dollars, the treblier parts sound shitty.

By commenting that a pair of headphones make you look ignorant you've made yourself look pretty ignorant

I mean they're supposedly designed by Dr. Dre so of course they sound great with hip hop and all but I've found that to be no problem with grunge music or metal or anything I've tried out so far, I'm listening to Them Bones right now and it's sounds fine, some of the more bass heavy songs I have I'll turn on the bass reducer.

I remember some time earlier in the year someone at school was selling cheap knock-offs (I think they were stolen), and there was some police trouble going on with that. Yep, that's what happens when you market expensive brand products to poor people around here.

I think he's generalizing that the majority of people that buy them are sort of like that.

And that sounds good, and I'd imagine the bass parts would be more apparent.

The only thing I'm really worrying about with them is if they'll damage my hearing, I'm used to my beat up pair of skullcandys that I could put up to 65-80% volume easily without it being all that loud, well with these I had it on about 70% volume for a few minutes and then set a volume limit on my iPad so it can only go to about 60%
