I think Kurt woulda gone stale, or he'd have abandoned music as a whole and lived in some really remote area with his daughter, avoiding all media or any sort of press coverage of his life.
Dave would have gone on to start the Foo Fighters but in a much different light, not having lost one of his best friends but instead moving on to more "mature" music.
Krist...well yeah I think he and Kurt would have been close friends, but not much else would have changed in the grand scheme of things, only internally for him as well as Dave.

We wouldn't be talking about Kurt, because he'd be a lot less of an icon, less of a legend and more of a tortured junkie on the road to the graveyard, isolated by himself almost exactly like Layne.

in the end its better to burn out than fade away. I dont think he ever meant to live past 27. Trust me someone (possibly borderline) fame was and is everything in the midst of the pain in that personality defect/ilness.

When he was little, he said to his sister that he wanted to die on his 27, so he could join the 27 club.

One thing is sure: The Nirvana we all know would not exist anymore.

I think that they would loose their popularity, then broke up and kurt would be playing in clubs and bars. He would maybe try to become a medecine ( he said that he wanted to be a medecine during an interview )

Dearly beloved are you listening?
I can't remember a word that you were saying
Are we demented or am I disturbed?
The space that's in between insane and insecure
Oh, therapy, can you please fill the void?
Am I retarded or am I just overjoyed

After starting to relisten to The Vines again this week, this subject have been on my mind. Where would nirvana be today?

I see them doing the same sort of thing as the Vines. Kurt himself expressed an interest in a new mellower direction for their new material, whilst the last recordings by the band dont indicate this it is possible Kurt would take Nirvana down the same sort of musical route that The Vines went through in their later albums, more chilled out "mature" tunes. I would then suspect that Nirvana would of been put on the back burner whislt Kurt explored other musical avenues. He did express an interest in working with Stipe.

Anyway thats my hearsay and conjecture :P

Kurt would be dead anyway. I mean honestly, if he didn't kill himself that night, he would have along the line another time.

I agree but try to imagine where Nirvana would be if Kurt was still alive. It's hard to imagine.

Exactly. Kurt's frail personality and drug addiction was Nirvana's downfall anyway.

In the last couple of months before his death, Kurt withdrew further and further; pushing away everyone he knew and loved.

It was in these times that Nirvana practically dissolved as a band.

I think that he was pushing people cause he knew that he was going to kill himself. He said to his sister that he wanted to die when he was going be 27 to be in the "27 Club". I think that his suicide was envisaged since a long time.
