"Montage of Heck" release date announced, to feature new original music

Post by BleedTheFreak »

Over the years, Nirvana box sets have mined the vaults for demos and unheard music, but it appears as though we may not have heard the last of original material from Kurt Cobain.

In a new press release touting HBO’s documentary lineup for 2015, it’s revealed that the highly anticipated ‘Kurt Cobain: Montage of Heck,’ set to premiere May 4, will include “previously unheard originals” from the Cobain catalog.
Cobain’s family gave director Brett Morgen full access to Cobain’s archives, including his never-before-seen home movies, recordings, artwork, photography, journals, demos, personal archives and songbooks. As expected, the film will feature dozens of Nirvana songs and performances, but the addition of the “previously unheard Cobain originals” is definitely a certain drawing point for any fan of the late rocker.

In addition, the press release confirms the official premiere date for ‘Kurt Cobain: Montage of Heck.’ Circle May 4 on your calendar for the premiere. Cobain’s daughter, Frances Bean Cobain, is serving of executive producer of the film.

This peaked my interest. Especially since it's HBO, but I just hate the name.

Yea, but I think I posted the wrong link!
I hate how YouTube goes directly into the next video.
Here's the right one.

There's gonna be a book too, which is nice.

Montage of Heck, the first fully authorized documentary about Nirvana frontman Kurt Cobain, is set to air on HBO later this year. Along with the film, Insight Editions will publish a Kurt Cobain: Montage of Heck companion book with "a mixture of animation stills, rare photography and other treasures from Kurt Cobain's personal archive."

Additionally, the book will boast extended transcripts of the exclusive interviews featured in the Brett Morgen-directed documentary, plus Morgen's own personal thoughts on creating the first Cobain film made with cooperation from the late singer's family. The film is set to premiere at the Sundance Film Festival later this month and will air on HBO on May 4th, according to the New York Daily News; Montage of Heck the book will hit shelves in April 7, 2015.

For the film, Morgen was granted unprecedented access to Cobain's archives thanks to Courtney Love and daughter Frances Bean, the latter of whom is listed as an executive producer on the film. "Once I stepped into Kurt's archive, I discovered over 200 hours of unreleased music and audio, a vast array of art projects (oil paintings, sculptures), countless hours of never-before-seen home movies and over 4,000 pages of writings that together help paint an intimate portrait of an artist who rarely revealed himself to the media," Morgen said.

Montage of Heck, named after a 30-minute avant-garde sound collage Cobain compiled in 1988, will contain footage from various Nirvana performances, previously unheard songs and home movies. Like Morgen's Robert Evans documentary The Kid Stays in the Picture, Montage of Heck will feature a mixture of live-action and animation.
