Do these look like a logo of a depressing band?

It's possibly the most kick-ass logo I've ever seen.. It doesn't look official or anything.. but still

I believe it's a very early one. It's in the Come As You Are biography.

True, that's totally how they were. It was just media hype that everyone in grunge was depressed and dark.

That's funny because I don't remember it. Though I haven't read that book in a while. Anyway, that logo is totally awesome!

Nirvana isn't a depressive band, it just has a couple of negative songs. And their logo seems to make Chris happy.

Maybe I made a bit of a mistake with this title...while I did see Nirvana as a rather negative band (at least with much of their music) I know they're not necessarily depressing, just have some very in-depth emotion. Like Something in the Way or All Apologies (Specifically, the latter really impacts me).

Not to ruin your interpretation of the song but All Apologies was written in 1990. Nirvana even recorded a demo of it in Jan of 91. It's hard to imagine that Kurt had written in specifically as a suicide note 4 years before he decided to do the deed. Then again, anything is possible. One of my favorite things about Kurt's songwriting is the variety of meanings everyone can get out of the songs. To me, those are just as well written if not better than a straight up story song.

Hey everyone, yet again I took a long loooonngg hiatus. I have returned!! So I know there were many dark lyrics in Kurt's songs but the one that always touched me the most was from Heart Shaped Box.

"Throw down your umbilical noose so I can climb right back."

To me that lyrics comes out as saying he wished he was aborted or never born or could go back to before his birth and wished it had never happened.

I know Kurt improved most of his lyrics on the spot and to him most of them held no true meaning but that lyric really touches me in a deep way.

Despite the whole upbeat fast pace-ness of the song, I'd have to say I find "Even in his youth" a really sad song if you listen to the lyrics. It was about his childhood and such.

But as everyone else says, I do believe "Something in the Way" has to be the most sad of all their songs. In my opinion.

In general though I always feel pumped up when listening to Nirvana, I suppose you could feel a bit sad if you really listened to some of Kurts lyrics (even though most have no real meaning) but for me the anger is what comes through the most and it's fucking beautiful
That's how I feel about this:

hmm... maby Heart Shaped Box...

even tho there r rumours that it's about the glory hole of you-know-who ;P

to me almost all Nirvana's songs are like a smile of a child who suffers from an incurable cancer... you know what I mean?
they sounds like they'r having fun but in the same time something sad is happening in the background... in their heads...
and this is actually what I like the most about this band... without that bitter taste of melancholy it'd be another usuall
rock band with some catchy songs.
