MIKE MCCREADY SAYS NEW MAD SEASON ALBUM COULD BE RELEASED THIS YEAR
Q: Another band that you’ve been a part of that once included the late Layne Staley is Mad Season. Is there any leftover material that didn’t make the debut album? If so, is there a chance that any of that will see the light of day?

A: Fantastic question! Funny you should mention that because we are working on that right now. There was another record that we did that, unfortunately, Layne (Stanley) and (Mark) Lanegan didn’t show up for – we did do music for it. There are a total of 11-12 unreleased songs that need a little bit of editing here and there. We’re looking at putting together those songs with singers who are the late Layne Staley’s caliber, if we can find them. I’d also like to find out if we can remaster and then re-release Above. I also came across some live tapes of a live show we did at the Crocodile. I was at our warehouse and found some two-inch tape of the show. I’d love to release all of this by the end of this year – that’s what we’re shooting for. I probably shouldn’t be telling you any of this, but that’s the plan as of the last two days.

Oh yeah did he hear anything back from that? It would be soooo awesome if he got to do it.

Mark Lanegan to do vocals on new Mad Season album

Post by Elektra Foxx » Tue Jul 24, 2012 4:04 pm

After recent word that a new album of previously unreleased Mad Season material is in the works, the band’s drummer Barrett Martin has revealed that singer Mark Lanegan (Screaming Trees, Queens of the Stone Age) will be contributing vocals to the effort. The band’s original vocalist, Layne Staley (Alice in Chains), died in 2002.

Mad Season was a supergroup formed in 1994 by Staley, guitarist Mike McCready (Pearl Jam), bassist John Baker Saunders (The Walkabouts) and Martin (Screaming Trees). Originally billed as The Gacy Bunch (combining serial killer John Wayne Gacy and the sitcom the Brady Bunch), the band changed their name to Mad Season.

Lanegan guested on Mad Season’s lone studio album, 1995‘s ‘Alive.’ He joined the band in 1997 after Staley quit, and they changed their name to Disinformation. The band split after the 1999 death of Saunders. McCready says Mad Season hopes to re-release ‘Alive’ sometime this year, and have plans for a concert album in addition to the album of unreleased songs.

Martin, who recently reunited on stage with McCready for the first time in 17 years, did not give any details as to how many songs Lanegan would sing on, or when the new album might be released. He did say the songs Lanegan will be providing vocals for were originally written for Staley.
