Tribute bands don't really get the point.

Alright those are some impressing mimicing skills, but I want to see Jeff Gutt do some Cornell, like Beyond The Wheel.

So true... I'd love to hear the dude not try to mimick and just put his own spin on it.

That's also why they had to go with someone like Duvall who's different enough to never be accused of being a "wannabe". Duvall is a really great singer and I really like many of the songs they've written together... however, as hard as I try it just doesn't reach/move me like AIC/w Layne. Not bashing at all, not one bit... glad they're together.

New Alice has gone a lil' boring :P They've always sounded a bit slow, but Layne kind of gave the songs a special spice that made them interesting anyway.

Alice in Chains ended a decade ago. I will never think otherwise.

So do I, but prefer to keep my voice down on this matter.

Gaaah... I'd like to, but freedom of speech isn't kind on negative views.

All the more reason to speak out.

I think it doesn't matter whether someone keeps the name or whatever (anyone currently following the ugly Queensrÿche mess happening at the moment?), it's whether people get behind it or in believe it that matters... and that it's good. There are times when listening to new-AIC that it does feel like AIC but mostly it feels like a different band. A cool band, but a different one.

It doesn't take people dying for that to happen though. I don't feel like the new Soundgarden feel like Soundgarden. I saw them twice last year and it just felt... off. They all seemed like they were phoning it in except Chris but he was only doing the best he can these days. And I don't think I ever got round to even putting King Animal on my iPod, I just couldn't get on board with it.
Debut album out now, listen to the whole thing on Soundcloud here ...

I agree, Jim. Soundgarden ended in 1997 as far as I'm concerned. Same frontman, same everything. It's just not the same. I do feel that they have more of a right to keep the name than Alice in Chains do, because it is the same band.

Is that so? Then is it really freedom of speech?
