



i think they were trying to appeal to metalheads with man in the box's heaviness, as opposed to their alt rock counterparts who were a tiny bit less heavy [e.g soundgarden[if u consider them punk or metal]pj and, nirvana etc.]
i think man in the box was aimed directly 100% @ metalheads/hard rockers and not alt/punk/indie fans
then with nevermind and the grunge explosion they just tried to cash in with sap & dirt and SUDDENLY become ''alt rock'', if grunge never happened i bet they would have been grouped with somewhat heavier bands such as tool and maybe janes addiction/rhcp/the funk metal scene of the early/mid 90s, hell maybe theyd even be grouped with the beastie boys or snoop dog!
if you have an opinion that might somewhat differ to mine [or differ at all to mine infact], then plz respond to this thread and i will debate you on the matter. thanks

btw i am a TINY bit biased towards metal, but i still love grunge
