Stone Temple Pilots Weren’t Pearl Jam Ripoffs

A snippet:
"STP PREDATED PEARL JAM
STP, in its earliest incarnation, formed somewhere around 1985, with Robert DeLeo on bass, Corey Hickock on Guitar, and David Allin on drums. That lineup recorded under the name Swing, while a demo recorded in 1990 with Dean DeLeo on guitar under the name Mighty Joe Young included grungy songs from Core like “Where The River Goes” and “Wicked Garden”, a full year before the release of Temple of the Dog (Eddie Vedder’s first appearance in the public eye) and Ten..."

Some of the demos...

Yeah, STP, with Scott Weiland as their singer, were good in their day. Core and Purple are excellent!

The comparison all came about due to one song....Plush....Not everyone had Pearl Jams faces memorized at the time and probably couldn't name a second member of the band so they went by what they heard..... Its more then likely that the record label released that song and gave it a huge push because it was similar to Pearl Jam so they saw huge dollar signs at the time and they were right on the money. With that song being the only thing 99 percent of the population had heard at that point its not hard to see why they labled them a Pearl Jam wannabe....though they knew enough to go find and buy the right album so really critics and writers who had helped to build grunge up were the ones that were tearing this band down in order to protect what they felt they had a steak in cus really they did.... critics/writers were typically not into vapid hair meatal/ 80s glam....they crapped on that and pushed for grunge and it helped move glam out and grunge in.....so they saw the start of imitators like this as being that would screw with something they helped build (at what point did I start rambling? I'm totally rambling here)..... anways heres what the most famous critics of the early 90s had to say about it all.....

It's the "s" in https, and the second one had a space after the "[youtube]" thing. I fixed them.

I always felt like Creed were the ones who tried to ripoff PJ.

I never quite understood the whole, STP is ripping them off thing.

by the time Creed showed up people didn't really care that much any more....the ones that cared before anyways....it was like "oh another Pearl Jam rip off".....STP were the first ones (that got huge attention) so the people that were pissed were super pissed.
