Similar influences often translates into similar sounding music -- it follows that STP and PJ both had their ears wrapped around a canny bit of Aerosmith, the deepest and purplest of Deep Purple, Led Zep, Stones, Neil Young -- the Godfather of Grunge... the Stooges, Kiss... they each took these influences and forged their respective and highly individual sounds in their footsteps, they both mixed them together to create something new and unique.

Anyhow, Weiland had his own thing going on, his music was miles away from Pearl Jam, not necessarily better but distinctive. You could tell from being 10 miles away and underwater that 1970s glam influence was all over his music, his singing, the hooks and his stage persona, he integrated Bowie and Bolan into his personality.

They don't even sound especially similar the vast majority of the time any way. The media fictionalizes these "ripoffs" because they're completely bored and need somebody to pick on.
It's hard to start things over, You can feel the fire around us, All the time. It's still unfashionable to beleive in principles.Let the Music Play.
