EVOL appreciation

Kim Gordon & Thurston Moore have been kicking it hard for over 20 years and they can still put on a mean show. Talk about these New York gods here!

EVOL appreciation

Post by March2Fuzz » Wed Sep 21, 2005 2:23 pm

Anyone lisened to EVOL?... IMO its the best SY album, but its totally underated. This album definatly beats their previous few atonal releases, which is basicly a wash of noise and feedback. I think this is first special sonic youth record. My favorits are 'Tom Violence', 'In the kingdom#19', 'Green Light', 'Marilyn Moore',' Express way (to yr skull)' and kim's 'BubbleGum'. All the songs here have emotion. Like the violent lyrics of 'In the kingdom#19' which is about a car crash, the sense of lonliness in 'Marlyn moore', and teenage angst in Star Power, bubble gum and express way to yr skull. This album spawned a new style of sonic youth. Records like Sister, Daydream Nation and Goo ect.... So evol is the perfect record to divide the early noise era and the more lisenable sonic youth era.
Whatdya think?

theyre great songs. Other good songs - Sugarcane, nic fit, therrisas sound world, wish fufillment....

But, i dunno why thurston sings "too bad the scene is dead, memories in the shadows blah blah...". Its a bit ironic, because that was when the scene was at its peak. Maybe he means the new york 'No Wave' scene is dead, which it was.

Yes, I love love love EVOL, but I think Bad Moon Rising is the most brilliant of theirs...
