definitely very different. like Jim Morrison once said ''we never play one song the same way at every show'', i think Kurt liked to switch it up, and you can see that in how he often changed the lyrics. they're very different from how they are in the studio but i don't think that's a bad thing, on several occasions they've showed they can do a song with almost exact replication of the studio sound (like a lot songs at Reading) but then again you could see how wasted Kurt was during some of their shows...

therefore, like with a lot of bands, you can't really ''sum up'' how they were live. they had ''conventionally'' great shows as in they sounded almost the same as on studio but there were also times where Kurt either took the piss or wasn't in any state to perform and did so anyway. as i said before, even if you suck, at least be bloody entertaining, which is exactly what Nirvana were.
Well said Jan.
Remember Paradiso 1991, Amsterdam. How he plays come as you are? It was like he just shot his heroin and he couldn't handle the trip. Loved it though.

And the sad thing is that he was a good guitar player. He had the ability to pull off weird riffs and sing at the same time, one thing you rarely see people do. Also, he had a highly melodic style that's to be admired. One time I heard a version of Come As You Are were he changes the solo around and it sounds fucking beatiful, and he's just pulling off his usual two-finger thing. I mean, I learned a lot from those little Kurt moments where he's playing seriously... But then I see a clip of him completely fucked up and taking the piss out of the crowd, either unable or unwilling to give it his all... And it makes me kind of sad. He had so much more to give, and yet chose to turn himself down way more than just a couple notches.

The killer awoke before dawn, he put his boots on
He took a face from the ancient gallery
And he walked on down the hall
He went into the room where his sister lived, and...then he
Paid a visit to his brother, and then he
He walked on down the hall, and
And he came to a door...and he looked inside
Father, yes son, I want to kill you
Mother...I want to...fuck you

The funny thing is I can only listen to acoustic versions of that song, the studio version sounds off to me

I love the acoustic version of Plush. I think it's amazing that Scott was high as fuck when he did that performance on Headbangers Ball.
