Re: Albums you have bought lately

STP, "Tiny Music..." came today and I enjoy it, I think my favourite song on the album is "Seven caged Tigers", the closing track.

Re: What are you currently listening to?

You have good taste!
If you like Pentangle ... and you've said you like Jethro Tull, then I strongly suggest giving the Fairport Convention (anything Sandy Denny did was wondrous), Ten Years After, Lindisfarne, Caravan and Steeleye Span a listen.

Re: Albums you have bought lately

Sent for Stone Temple Pilots, "Tiny Music" from Ebay ... I realized I have very scant STP in my collection .... £3 so it shan't impede on my reserves. While I wait for that to get here ... I think I will revisit their existing inventory, I own Core and Purple and theres already an appreciable body o...

The Decemberists were another really good band of the past decade ... more folk-rock a la REM

Re: 65 questions about music

1. What are you listening to right now? Tom Waits, "Earth died Screaming" 2. What song makes you sad? Too many to name, but some notable ones include ... Alice in Chains, "Don't Follow" ... Neil Young, "Needle and the Damage done" ... Tom Waits, "Hold on" ... Proclaimers "What do you Do" ... Led Zep...

Manic Street Preachers covering “Damn-Dog” ... the original artist's identity escapes me, but knew a good riff when they wrote one http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VbuRfeaJqdU Fairport Convention covering “Matty Groves”, which is a traditional folk number originating in the Lake District I gather. htt...

Re: Hair metal

Motley Crue are getting back together for a tour, having destroyed their cessation-of-touring contract in a large explosion I am not a huge fan of the hairmetal scene but I always loved the Crue, I often wondered if they were really a “hair” band at all, sound more like reel rawk n roll to me ... so...

Re: Guilty Pleasures

I love early Coldplay, and as already stated elsewhere I see them as the greatest rock band of the 2000s (though again competition was all but absent), Chris sang with real ardour, they wrote melodies that hit you in the face and the could play some jarring guitar riffs (Shiver). - - ABBA were ... o...

Re: Prot/Post and Garage Punk for the Kids

Good shout with David Bowie, a real innovator! "Hang onto Yourself" I adjudge to be the very juncture when proto-punk was "almost there" ... some very Ramones-y riffs here!

Re: The term ROCK..i think i can agree with that term being dead

I agree...I unashamedly love early Coldplay and see them as the best rock-n-roll band of the 2000s.
That decade was an egregious and insipid time for rock though.
I think rock got better over this past decade though — The Amorettes, Joanne Shaw Taylor, Greta Van Fleet, Black Star Riders

Re: How did you get into grunge?

My father was a minor fan of both AiC and Nirvana, so I grew up hearing their respective Mtv Unplugged records ...
...I really got into grunge because I was a saddened, depressed teenager who loved real rock and thoroughly detested hiphop and numetal.

Re: Prot/Post and Garage Punk for the Kids

The Velvet Underground. I am not sure what i can say about this band. All the words have been used, so just kick back, close your eyes and enjoy. One of my favorite quotes about VU was from Brian Eno ... of the debut only selling 30,000 copies worldwide on-release, he said "everyone who bought one o...
