Re: Bands You Can't Stand

Drowning Pool are a band I’m not all that fond of. They’re not terrible I wouldn’t, but none of their stuff ever did anything for me (they were a one hit wonder anyway). Just not a good take on Nu-Metal IMHO.

Re: Guns N' Roses

Guns N Roses! Just seen this thread. One of my favourite bands. One of the best bands ever in my opinion. My favourite song has always been a tossup between Right Next Door To Hell, Civil War And You Could Be Mine. So as you can guess from those few choices, my favourite era for the band was the Use...

Re: How would you describe the Pixies?

Describe them? Not grunge, but they’re pretty grungy!

Re: Best Pixies Song

Myself I always liked the song I Bleed, from Doolittle. Probably because it reminds me of the Smashing Pumpkins.

Re: Bands You Can't Stand

Anyhow, if In Utero/Bleach-inspired second-wave/post-Grunge rock is your thing then there's plenty of it: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Sq1VrsK4qvo http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cJ9_UJJGeNA http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8EKFd88E-uQ http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=i860U22o3TE This one manages to so...

Re: Bands You Can't Stand

I don’t really see the importance of the two supposed sides of In Utero, in the sense that, I don’t see particularly what the difference is between the Heart-Shaped Box, Rape Me, etc side of IU and the Serve The Servants, Scentless Apprentice , etc side of IU are. I mean, both are raw, abrasive, wit...

Re: Bands You Can't Stand

I seldom see very many bands copying from In Utero or Bleach You mentioned Seether’s Remedy. While the verses are reminiscent of Come As You Are, the song on the whole is more abrasive than what you’d find on Nevermind, and definitely puts me in mind of a Nirvana song from the In Utero era. There’s...

Re: Bands You Can't Stand

Bush have never been considered Grunge. Like, ever. What planet are you on? Aye, surely they have. The first two albums were generally considered to be the tail-end of Grunge. Of course Bush have about as much right to be ‘Grunge’ as the Stone Temple Pilots, neither band is from anywhere near Seattl...

Re: Bands You Can't Stand

On the contrary, I think AIC got more progressively grunge as they went on, you've got songs like Grind, Sludge Factory, Again and Died -- which are far closer to grunge than the majority of songs on Facelift which still have that slight hair tinge. Sexual chocolate. Woosh, even with a controversia...

Re: Bands You Can't Stand

1996 (when Curb was released) and 1995 (Foo Fighters) were considered the ‘tail-end’ of Grunge. When taking about Bush’s first two albums, for example, the genre category Grunge is preferred over post-Grunge for this reason. I should note that Grunge and post-Grunge are NOT the same style of music, ...

Re: Bands You Can't Stand

The fact that you’ve denounced numerous artists who would generally be considered Grunge or at least closely linked to the genre (Stone Temple Pilots, Blind Melon, Bush, Smashing Pumpkins, as crap as they might be now, Nickelback’s first album was Grunge, same for the Foo Fighters though they’re sti...

Re: Bands You Can't Stand

Stone Temple Pilots not grunge? LOL. You are very wrong indeed my friend. I've always considered that half of the stuff on Core would have fit quite well on Bleach. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RRNVrel3ezg http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=S62Hi8B2l6I What Grunge basically is, its not just about bass...

Re: Placebo

“A friend in need’s a friend indeed, a friend with weed is better” I like Placebo. I don’t know where to categorise these guys (I mean they’re clearly not Britpop) and they’re not as good as some of the other U.K. alternative acts of the time, but they have some tunes. I have several albums. As I so...

Re: Bands You Can't Stand

Grunge is characterized by heavily distorted sludgy electric guitars, fuzz and feedback, bass-heavy riffs, contrasting song dynamics, growled or screamed vocals and apathetic or angst-filled lyrics centered on themes of nihilism and drug abuse. Absolutely none of that applies to Pearl Jam... Really...
