Re: My top 10 favorite rap songs

After my daughter had grown in my wife's womb for a few months, we had a couple ultrasounds done a few months apart. The doctor and nurses who did the ultrasounds knew our child was a girl because in the ultrasound we could see there was no penis. I tend to trust medical professionals on questions l...

Re: My top 10 favorite rap songs

Right, so your assumption is "this anonymous guy from the internet has conservative political views and a penis, both of which I find scary, so the people this guy meets in real life must find him scary too." But if those people are intimidated by my politics and the fact that I'm a man, then they'l...

Re: My top 10 favorite rap songs

Are you basing that on statistics or on the debates you and I have had on here? Statistically, you're right: my statement is not literally true. I've met and interacted with probably tens of thousands of people throughout my life, and it's impossible I've never left the impression on a single person...

Re: My top 10 favorite rap songs

...or maybe that I'm a bit opinionated but that I don't seem like I'm any harm to anyone and in any case it's more than balanced out by all the nice-guy stuff they see me doing.

Re: My top 10 favorite rap songs

If you think like that, why ever leave your house at all? Risks can't be eliminated, but they can be reasonably minimized. Based on the way people react to my politics online, and based on what I've seen happen to other conservative people, I see that I'm probably okay still going online and talkin...

Re: My top 10 favorite rap songs

Been here four years. Nothing happened yet. I ran around in the rain during thunderstorms countless times when I was a teenager and I was never struck by lightning, but that doesn't mean a rational person should have no apprehensions about doing that. But anyway, since... 1. one of the things I do ...

Re: My top 10 favorite rap songs

From what I remember from before I joined, it's possible to browse most of the threads here without being a member. That means anyone can see GF members' usernames, avatars, and posts--which a lot of the time include what appear to be their real first names. I think those things will show up in Goog...

Re: My top 10 favorite rap songs

So Adam was "art" too, then? :D Too bad he's not around. BTW, are these names I keep seeing (Adam, Jen, Jan, etc.) people's real names? Strikes me as odd to use your real name in public parts of the internet. Then again it probably helps if you don't have a very unique foreign-sounding name that cou...

Re: My top 10 favorite rap songs

The world doesn't have a general judgement so that's that. But it does. Let me illustrate: "Mozart is one of the greatest composers to ever live." What validates a statement like that? Why has it been possible to anyone say it for hundreds of years without anybody else seriously questioning it? Why...

Re: My top 10 favorite rap songs

You're confusing

[your personal emotional judgment of something right now]

with

[the world's general theoretical judgment of something over a long period of time]. <<<---That's what the evolutionary process I'm talking about applies to.

Re: My top 10 favorite rap songs

It's a metaphor. There are of course no trophies and no winning and losing in art (other than whether you can make a living at it, I suppose). But there is a hierarchy, the purpose of which is to celebrate--and mark for preservation--the highest expressions of beauty and human accomplishment. You ca...

There's a lot of bassy country singers, even on mainstream country radio. Also a lot of tenors who aren't nasally. That's another big thing differentiating country from rock these days.

Re: My top 10 favorite rap songs

The more you explain, the more I realize this is fallout from the "give everyone a trophy just for showing up" ethos. How do you tell someone that they didn't win the race, or that their event wasn't even part of the official meet, but still make sure they understand that it's great they showed up ...

Re: My top 10 favorite rap songs

cultural elitism limits the accessibility to culture OK, and?? Whose access is being limited? At the Cleveland Art museum I mentioned, the admission is FREE! It's located right next to the hood on Cleveland's east side! You can walk down MLK to Euclid and BAM you're right there! There's a bus and l...

Re: Country

You're really gonna stick all those great bands - that take their time to make good music - and say they're bad just cause they're not from a certain year? I just said I assume I won't like their music. So what happens is I don't seek it out. I never said that I say they're bad without listening to...
