Re: Help Nirvana beat Guns and Roses

I guess these two bands are STILL battling it out!

Kurt Cobain and Axl Rose hated each other:

Re: Helmet

Heck yeah I like Helmet, when I saw them live back in like 1994 (with Sausage and Rollins Band) they rocked!

It was cool, like the Bass player was drinking an alcoholic beverage on stage!

Sometimes I like to listen to something a little heavy and Helmet fills that roll nicely!

Re: slacker

...then maybe a year ago I started looking up Candlebox videos and kept finding people saying "Hey look it's Jay, where's Silent Bob?" LOL! Anyhow you should watch 'Slacker' just be fore-warned it is an indie-flick and that kind of vibe is not for everyone. My favorite scene was those dudes t...

Re: My least favorite thing about the self titled album..

Is the blatant use of vocal effects on some songs, does anyone know why they did this, I like laynes vocals a lot better clean Sadly I think that Laynes voice had started to deteriorate at this point in his life. Taking drugs to such an extent has got to mess up someones voice after awhile. I know ...

Re: Grunge/Alternative Bands back together/never broke up

Well I am pretty sure that Sonic Youth is considered 'broken up' at this point. "It remains to be seen at this point what happens. I think they are certainly the last shows for a while and I guess I'd just leave it at that." Ranaldo also suggest there are no plans for Sonic Youth to record new mater...

Re: a mini war between alt. metal bands and grunge bands?

i hear early 90s alt metal bands like tool, jane's addiction, nin [before they went all industrial] and rage against the machine were rivals with grunge bands or something, is this true? any more info on this? 1.) Tool seems to have gotten along with grunge guys. Like James Maynard Keenan even did ...

Re: So they might be rock hall of famers

Yeah like I was thinking that maybe Nirvana could get in earlier because some of their demos and stuff (fecal matter tapes) like go all the way back to like 1985 and stuff I think. Anyhow they can get in on like the 20th anniversary of In Utero coming out if it is in 2013... that would be cool. It w...

Hells yes.
They have some skills.

From the admittedly little I have listened to them I have heard them sound like The Cure and then sound like The Smiths on the next song... dang that would take some serious skill to pull off. 8)

Re: So they might be rock hall of famers

Hmm.. Nirvana is not in yet? Well 'Bleach' wasn't recorded until 1989, so they may still have to wait a few more years to get in. Still it shocks me that RHCP are in! When I was growing up they were a mere one hit wonder with 'higher ground', but since then they have blown up (thanks in large part t...

Re: Tom Cruise Goes Grunge for New Film ‘Rock of Ages’

No offence, but you are obsessed with the 90's I mean, in almost every single longer post you post you somehow talk about when you were a kid in the 90's. Who knows, maybe we are in an era as well and people will glorify it. Don't get me wrong, I like grunge music and all, but there are other thing...

Also....please tell me everyone has his Songbook album....pleaseeee Yeah, in fact I just listened to it at work the other day! 8) It is a great retrospective. Hard to believe that Chris Cornell has been making music for like more than 20 years! Man if only like Kurt Cobain and Andrew Wood would hav...

Re: rock music today sucks

i like Foster the People, and The Black Keys. Exactly! They are a-ok in my book. In fact Black Keys are playing at the Rose Garden in Portland Oregon, which is one of the biggest places around here. Frankly I am surprised they have a big enough fan base to play there, but I guess they do. (Usually o...

Re: Naming guitars

The only dude I know who named his guitar was B.B. King who named his guitar 'Lucille', so I don't think naming these things is that common. However if I did get a guitar I would get the J Mascis Jazzmaster kind: http://i1100.photobucket.com/albums/g408/slatesphanboi/Miscellaneous%20Five/025-5800-55...

Awesome! Today is my birthday (April 12) and this thread was on the 'new posts' list!
